Schools begin to offer Gym classes online
January 16th, 2006
One of the unlikely online offerings of public schools is the gym. The course allows students to meet requirements by exercising how they want, when they want.
They are required to work out hard for 30 minutes four times a week and report to their teachers by e-mail. Parents must certify that the students did the workouts.
Physical education is one of 27 online courses now offered by the Minneapolis Public Schools, which had none four years ago.

whatever it takes to get kids active. we’ve got a cool kids gym here in town that incorporates the use of those video bikes that combine video games with physical activity.
That is just plain…silly.
I think making gym mandatory is ridiculous. I never learned anything in gym about fitness. I stayed fit on my own. Survival of the fittest baby. Survival of the fittest.
I kind of like the idea, even though I agree in part with Valerie. I don’t know how gym classes in the US differ from gym classes in South Africa, but I remember from my school days that the exercises were often silly and a bit embarassing, rendering most of the children unwilling to do these exercises in front of their school mates. If you get someone to enjoy something (be it in the privacy of their own home or whatever the case may be) they’ll be far more inclined to do it out of their own accord.
